Osteopathy and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/M.E...

At the moment I have a glimmer of hope towards recovering from this debilitating illness that has haunted my every wakening hour for the past 6 years.....

Throughout this time, I have lost all my hopes and dreams.... struggled to maintain a job... and even to ascertain some sort of normality.... life has been horrendous...

I have sought refuge for many years "Within my Glass Cage" as within, I felt safe... as the walls of glass shield me from peoples convictions. Yes, perhaps I am now an exhibit to society... but from within my sanctuary I do not have to appease others nor distort there own selfish evaluations of my illness...

Within my Glass Cage... I can appease the factor of what the eye does not see the brain can deal with... and realisation of my illness and the debilitating factors that I have learned to live with will remain invisible...

After all Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is an invisible illness...

We, as sufferers, have became the "undead" of society... as we still have the periodical capabilities momentarily... of both physical/mental requirements...only to find that seconds later... we have became "zombies".. so to speak.. as our brain and physical functions continuously refuse to abide by the expectations of life.

Within this controversy we, as sufferers... from the non negotiations.. of our brain and physical requirements... are then through no fault of our own are deemed to a lifetime of torture... both physically & mentally.

As a result of the above information.. we as sufferers are deemed to a sheer existence...

Periodically I step out of my "Glass Cage" and try to face normality... but always find that I have to return... to my sanctuary of "Glass" as within... although I am an exhibit... I am also shielded from the negativity of society, as at a glance... as they walk on by, all they see is a girl caged in glass.. and are to busy to question the mere factor of why?

I may as well be an exhibit, rather than a mockery... or be diagnosed with a label of ignorance....

I have, as many predecessors before me, of this invisible illness been seeking my" magic pill" and like many others, have desperately tried many methods with the hope of recovery... but unfortunately... I have yet to find mine.

Within my quest, I stumbled on a diversion... but as I got lost along the way.. I was to late to attend a function, which was held in my area a few weeks ago.... so, I backtracked and asked for directions... to what had happened previously... I was told that Raymond Perrin himself had held a seminar for sufferers within my area several weeks ago.... which sadly, I missed...

To be honest, as in cures... I am very scepticle... but then, I decided to partake a journey of discovery.... after all what do I have to lose???

Nothing!!!

At the moment... I am still seeking directions for my journey to discovery... and gathering information... as this journey has given me light at the end of the tunnel... and I do not want to get lost in the darkness whilst seeking what is rightfully mine... as in good health...

I have already, been faced with many diversions... but my determination and hope will suffice.... and I will reach my destination....

To date this is my route map of hope....

I telephoned the organiser of the seminar which Raymond Perrin attended in person... and was given this link to get some information...

http://theperrinclinic.com

I also had a lengthy chat with the girl that I spoke to, and explained that I was very scepticle about treatments... because if this was the case... and people can be cured by this technique, why are there so many people out there still suffering from this debilitating illness.... obviously, she was bias, as this was her profession... I asked her to send me some information...

This is the information on the leaflet that I received...

Osteopathy and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/M.E...

Osteopathy is a manual system of medicine which redresses the strains and imbalances of the body which are preventing it from fully healing. All the practitioners at Loudon Osteopaths are registered and fully qualified Osteopaths. To further advance our techniques in the treatment of C.F.S/M.E we have all done further training with Raymond Perrin, an Osteopath who has specialised in this area. Dr Perrin has investigated and proved several key features of C.F.S/M.E and has developed an effective treatment which has successfully returned even the most debilitated sufferers to a full an active life.

What we know so far about C.F.S/M.E...

C.F.S/M.E is not a new condition as the symptoms were first noted during the American Civil War. However the main issues with this condition are:

  • Stress (physical and emotional)

  • Toxicity (infections, allergies, pollution and disease)

  • Two states, with which our present society and culture is not unfamiliar. This may account for it's rise in prevalence in the past few years.

The science behind it...

Stress in our bodies is controlled and modified in large part by a section of our nervous system called the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) This system puts us into a state of readiness for action (for "fight " or "flight")

The nerve cell bodies for the (SNS) are located behind the the vertebrae and ribs of the mid back (dorsal spine) with the control centre in the brain, in an area called the hypothalamus.

The hypothalamus is protected by the brain from toxins that blood may have picked up by the blood brain barrier. This is a filtration mechanism, which prevents large unmanageable proteins and molecules from entering the brain tissues.

This protective ability also prevents pharmaceutical drugs from affecting the hypothalamus, which is why no drugs can effectively treat C.F.S/M.E.

Toxicity...

The lymphatic system of the body, by and large, removes toxicity from the body. This system is made up of very fine vessels with conglomerates of white blood cells (disease fighting cells) situated in swellings of the vessels called Lymph nodes.

The vessels run parallel to the veins and remove waste and toxicity from the body tissues, which are further broken down in the nodes and spleen before being returned to the general circulation.

When things go wrong...

It seems that C.F.S/M.E occurs when...

  • The SNS gets overloaded and our bodies are in kept in a constant state of readiness, which prevents us entering into deep states of restfulness, so that our bodies can heal and repair. Eventually this overload causes our bodies to collapse into complete exhaustion.

  • The lymphatic system cannot clear the lymph fast enough or well enough and a backlog builds up in the vessels and nodes leaving our immune system incapable of responding to regular demands. This build up eventually puts pressure on the blood-brain barrier with the brain and spinal cord becoming toxic, which can affect memory, concentration and co-ordination.

  • Applying a subtle osteopathic technique called cranial-sacral allow us to reduce congested fluids out of the central nervous system and allow circulation and vitality to return to normal.

What to expect from treatment...

The osteopath may use a range of techniques such as...

  • Soft tissue - working on the muscles to relieve tensions.

  • Articulation - stretching the joints to release stiffness.

  • High velocity thrusts - clicking the spinal joints to release stiffness.

  • Craniol-sacrial - gently releasing the sutures (joints) of the skull and the pelvis to relieve congestion.

The choice of technique will alter depending on which stage of C.F.S/M.E you are experiencing. Initionaly when we treat people with C.F.S/M.E there symptoms are aggravated and they may experience how they felt when they were at there worst point of there condition or hey may "bottom out" as the process of rebalancing starts to turn a corner, Either way the body has to work hard to eliminate the the toxic lymphatic backlog so that the nervous system strain can start to be reduced, This amount of healing can initionaly be an exhausting process. However, once the body starts moving again improvements starts to come a bit quicker and the road to health may also include the resolution of many old injuries and symptoms that the body has not had the energy or resources to resolve before now.

Into the future....

Once normal life has been resumed, depending on the time someone has suffered C.F.S/M.E, they usually only need general osteopathic MOT'S, once or twice a year, which is what everyone in the general population should have anyway to maintain excellent overall health.

Our purpose, our people, our place...

At Loudon Osteopaths, we believe in raising our patients expectations, Improving your quality of health can improve your quality of life.

All our practitioners have been fully trained and qualified from one of the recognised colleges of Osteopathy in the U.K. and are all registered with the General Osteopathic Council.

At the moment, my journey has reached yet another diversion... as the above treatment is costly... (approx 30 a session) and lets face it, we as sufferers are just tad financially embarrassed...

Most of us are struggling on benefits... and struggling to make ends meet, and this "magic pill" is not available on the N.H.S... (to date they are to busy funding drug addicts and alcoholics... and we as real people with a real illness do not seem to exist) but I have came across a loophole....

Every healthcare provider has funding available for such measures... but trust me... you have to be one tenacious woman to get such help... (sorry guys)

My advice is to contact your local G.P's practice manager in writing.... and explain your plight.... and this request should be forwarded to the primary care provider.. which in my case is Ayrshire and Arran....

Lets face it... our local G.P,S to date are still creating an element of useless expenditure on there part, as seemingly they are trying to help... but still we are struggling.... so why not put all monies to a better purpose???

I have sent my letter to my local practice and it consists of...

I am writing to enquire about the possibility of being referred to Loudoun Osteopaths, 5 Station Road, Galston, Ayrshire, as I have heard that there is N.H.S places available at Loudoun Osteopaths, and feel I'd definately benefit from accessing their services.

At present ,my life is a daily struggle with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/M.E..., and this has been my situation now for 6 years. Unfortunately no other treatment has worked for me, and I find myself no further forward, year after year.

I have recently read two pamphlets produced by the Loudoun Osteopaths (one of which I have included for your information) and I have got hope for the first time in several years. Unfortunately, I am not in a position financially to access there services at present, and this is the reason I write to you.

It is therefore my great hope you now consider my request, and provide me with the possibility of recovery.....

This letter was posted a week ago, for now I patiently await a reply....

To date...as this is a personalised website...I will not impose nor guarantee any "magic pill" on any sufferer, as personally speaking, I refuse to give false hope, the decision to go down such a route is based on the individual themself...

For now, I am tired... and again I need to seek sanctuary "Within My Glass Cage"

But, once my route to health is coordinated... I will let you know of the trials and tribulations that such a journey has subjected me to...

After all without dreams we have no future... and without a future we have no hope...

I promise this though.... if I have found my "magic pill" I aim to resurrect the aspect of hope to all.... but time will tell...

My Journey Of Hope Has Reached A Dead End...

Throughout my waiting game for a reply to my request.. I had within built up an element of hope... that I was going to wake from this horrible nightmare that I have been living for the past 6 years... but, AGAIN, the N.H.S has threw a spanner in the works...

Although I was scepticle about the treatment mentioned above.. but over the course of the last week or so, I had within, started to truly believe that perhaps I would get well... so you can imagine my dismay when I received this letter this morning....

Thank you for you letter of 7th April 2008, requesting referral to the Loudoun Osteopaths.

I have made enquiries on your behalf to ******** and ***** Primary Care Trust regarding funding for this, but I am sorry to say that they have refused. They have advised me that no funding is available whatsoever for this kind of referral.

I have informed Dr. ****** of this situation. If I can be of any other assistance please contact me.

Yours sincerely

***** ********
Practice Manager

And contact them I will... that is for definate!!!!

Lets face it... they are quick enough to hand out endless prescriptions of ant-depressants... to mask the problem at hand... but they will not help to treat the problem itself... TYPICAL!!!

Perhaps I have reached a dead end in my journey to hope... but, for now.. I am going to take another direction.... and perhaps this road may lead to the directions to regain health and virtue...

After all... no price, however costly it may be, should be placed on an individuals head... but seemingly, that is the way that it seems....

But I promise, I will fight to regain what is rightly mine...

MY HEALTH!!!

After all, there is funding available for alcoholics, drug addicts and asylum seekers... so why not for a decent person, who has paid their taxes... and got ill through being a respectful hard working individual... it just isn't right....is it???

For now, well I am lost... but my journey to health will be completed... and tomorrow I will seek another route... a route of completion!!!
